What the Jets Receive
The Jets obtained quarterback Aaron Rodgers and received a 2023 first-round pick (No. 15) and a 2023 fifth-round pick (No. 170).
What the Packers Receive
Green Bay received a 2023 first-round pick (No. 13), a 2023 second-round pick (No. 42), a 2023 sixth-round pick (No. 207), and a 2024 conditional second-round pick that becomes a first-round selection if Rodgers plays 65% of the snaps in 2023.
Rodgers Career Numbers
Rodgers is a certain first-ballot Hall of Famer with a 65% career completion rate. Rodgers has thrown for an 8th-best 59,055 passing yards with a 5th-best 475 TD passes, and his 105 interceptions are 2nd on the all-time list during his 230 regular season games with the Packers.
Rodgers’s postseason results are mixed. The Packers won the 2010 Super Bowl with Rodgers under center, and he threw for 5894 yards and 45 TDs with 11 interceptions in his 22 playoff appearances.
New York Jets Super Bowl Odds
The Jets are +1400 favorites to win Super Bowl LVIII. Can the trade for Rodgers put the Jets in contention for their 2nd career Super Bowl victory?
Rodgers is an upgrade over the four Jets QBs that started games in 2022. The offense boasts some talented athletes, and the Jets offseason was productive as they added veteran wideouts Allen Lazard and Mecole Hardman. They’ll join a robust WR room with reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson and Corey Davis, giving Rodgers a better WR corps than he had last season with Green Bay.
This Jets offense looks good on paper and is better with Rodgers taking snaps than Zach Wilson. Rodgers isn’t the most mobile QB in the game, and his offensive line currently has more question marks than answers. Still, he has Wilson coming off a Rookie of the Year season, and he and Rodgers will put up some numbers.
The New York defense could be one of the best in the pro game. The Jet’s defense was 4th in total yards allowed, 3rd in passing yards, and 16th in rushing yards while surrendering the 4th fewest points during the 2022 regular season. 2nd-year all-pro safety Sauce Gardner returns to a secondary that could be one of the best in the league, and the run-stop win rate of 53% was the 2nd-highest in the NFL.
The Jets should compete, but +1400 isn’t a reasonable price for New York to win Super Bowl LVIII. The AFC East is a tough division, and the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, and New England Patriots have all made excellent off-season additions to their rosters.
The Jets could finish last in the division like they did last season, or Rodgers and the offense could hit their stride and win the division. Either way, we can wait and see what happens, and while we may not get the best value once the season begins, we should still get a good price if we choose to revisit this after the 2023 NFL schedule is released in early May.
